Chef Jen

Meet Jennifer Spear, “Chef Jen,” our executive chef. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, Jennifer joined us in October. She has a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts management, and specializes in exotic foods with bold, intense flavors like Asian-inspired, Moroccan and Indian foods.

At Sweet Themes Bakery, Chef Jen focuses on our savory dishes – breakfast dishes, soups, sandwiches, entreés, homemade bread and rolls, and more. One of her specialties at Sweet Themes is the Italian wedding ball soup. She starts with chicken stock and mirepoix (onions, carrots, celery, then garlic) and adds spinach, pasta stars and meatballs made with a mixture of ground beef and sausage. “It’s not your everyday meatball. It’s a little bit more exciting!” Chef Jen says. Jen also plans the weekly menu and manages the kitchen.

Before coming to Sweet Themes, Chef Jen worked at the Bellevue Club and 909 in Burien. She is married to husband Adam, who is the executive chef at Scotch & Vine in Des Moines. The couple has a 7 month old son Aiden, for whom Jen is already preparing special dishes – she makes her own baby food! So far, Aiden’s favorites are carrots, squash and yams.

If you get a chance to meet Jennifer, please stop and say “hi”! You’ll love her as much as we do.
